I've been absent from the blog lately, for good reason. That hurt arm, it turned out to be a strained trap muscle that had in turn irritated and inflamed the nerve running down my entire arm. Very painful. But the nice doctor gave me muscle relaxants and pain killers to help get over it. And getting over it I was, until Wednesday. I'd been treating my arm very gingerly while in Davis for work again and by Tuesday, it was feeling so much better. So much better, in fact, that when the alarm went off on Wednesday morning, in my sleepy haze, I swung my healing arm up and over to shut the alarm off...and restrained it. In fact, I think I not only restrained my trap, but pulled my deltoid as well as some other muscles. I'm so mad at myself, you wouldn't believe. And I'm running out of pain killers and muscle relaxants. And I'm out of the country for work next week except for Monday. How much of a druggie do you think I'll sound like if I call up the doctor and ask her for refills? Have I mentioned that I am SO mad at myself?! And I haven't been able to do much, let alone knit. And I missed Carole's baby shower due to being in a doped up muscle relaxant haze that makes it not good for me to drive, so needless to say I didn't finish the baby quilt in time. And now I think I might miss one of my best friend's, Tony's, graduation/engagement party for the same reason. And I am typing this with one hand. And.....SUCKS! That's what. OK, I'm done complaining...for now.
Oh, I meant to add that when I went to the good doctor for the initial diagnosis, she looked at my age (nearing 30) and said, "Yup, that's about right. When you get to this age, you act like you're still young but your body is getting older and you generally don't give it enough tender loving care." Well, she didn't say that exactly, but that was the gist. So, I'm thinking that once I get over this arm thing (and before any new ailment befalls me) I'm going to take up yoga, regularly. My plan was to do this at the beginning of the year, but I was nursing a pulled back muscle and then pretty soon after that (I did get to try the yoga once) I got plantar faciitis. And now this. Seriously, I've gotten the message. I'm going to put more effort into taking better care of myself.
